Oral Citation Tips

General Tips:

  • As you are speaking, tell the audience the source of the information.
  • Avoid saying, “quote, unquote” when using a direct quotation. Try pausing briefly before and after the quote.
  • Ensure the audience has enough information to find the source on their own. Include the author(s) name, a brief explanation of their credentials, the title of the work, and publication date.
  • Provide a caption citation for all direct quotations and /or relevant images on your PowerPoint slides.
