Materials Reconsideration

The Reconsideration of Library Materials Process

The Director of Library Services responds to library materials challenges first by meeting informally with the person objecting to the material.

If this informal meeting and discussion does not resolve the complaint to their satisfaction the person objecting to an item will be asked to complete the Request for Reconsideration of GTC Library Materials Form.

A meeting with the members of Academic Affairs administration and faculty will be called in order to review the material, the completed form, professional reviews and any recommendations and comments by GTC faculty, staff and students in the context the Collection Development Policy and the mission of Gwinnett Technical College. The principles of the Library Bill of Rights are upheld at all times.

The decision will be communicated to the person objecting to the material and to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

If their decision is not acceptable to the person objecting to the material, they may appeal it to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and if necessary, to the President’s Cabinet for further consideration and a final decision.
