2020 Virtual Poetry Night

The Corona Persona

By: Padma Vedula (GTC Faculty)

People are dying; people are scared.

People are confused and are bare.

People are sick; people beware;

This is only the start, and so unaware.

Do not mingle; do not share

Do not breathe another’s air.

Love your neighbor; love your friends;

Love all the workers who place our health above them

The virus is invisible but our world is clearer.

The air is clean and our family is dearer.

Our homes are our resort, and the garden our retreat,

And for once, the animals have a treat.

The underlying truths of our real heroes

Are the ones who keep our worries at zeros

They keep us fed, our surroundings clean;

They keep us alive when there is a need.

They are our angels, and our saviors;

Hopefully this changes our behaviors.

Elevate the poor; elevate the needy;

Invest in them, and not be greedy.

Support hunger, healthcare and education needs;

As that is real infrastructure indeed.

Invest in the family; invest in the home;

Cook meals at home and reduce styrofoam.

Eat less meat and let the animals roam;

To bring down disease and all syndromes.

Let’s choose a way to put nature and people first;

And eliminate, politics, greed and thirst.

Hopefully, the lessons learned from this global pandemic,

Will lead to all that is good and becomes systemic.
