Synchronous Tools in Blackboard

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra

Our learning management system, Blackboard (Bb), has a feature known as Bb Collaborate Ultra. Blackboard Collaborate Ultra is a real-time video conferencing tool that lets instructors add files, share applications, use a virtual whiteboard and a chat feature to interact with students. Collaborate Ultra opens right in your Chrome browser, so you don't have to install any software. When participating in a web conference headsets/headphones are recommended.  Headsets will reduce feedback and improve audio quality.

Asynchronous Tools in Blackboard

From posting readings to submitting homework, the bulk of Bb features support asynchronous course activity. Here are some to consider using since you can't meet with your class face-to-face:

PowerPoint Voice Over

With PowerPoint 2016 or higher (available through your Dashboard 365 account), you can record your voice on top of PowerPoint slides, giving information that you might typically provide in a live lecture. The PowerPoint can then be saved onto your computer, uploaded into your One Drive account and then share the link in your Blackboard course. Due to size limitations, you should not upload these files directly into your course.

Digital Content

GTC Library has electronic resources available. The GTC Faculty Library Guide offers a wide array of material types that could be incorporated into courses. These include articles, books, videos, image collections, newspapers, historical archives, music, and journals and magazines.

Open Educational Resources (OER), which are freely available text and course materials, are listed by broad general discipline areas here: https://gtclibrary.libguides.com/OER2. These can substitute for physical books.
